Due it the capabilities of the new highly sensitive CMOS-sensor (FX format, with the resolution of 12,1 megapixel), and the function of high-resolution video capturing, introduced on Nikon cameras for the first time, the D3S model has become increasingly interesting for professional photographers.

The ISO rating of the given CMOS-sensor ranges from 200 to 12 800 ISO units (can be adjusted to 100 – 102 400 units with the help of Lo-1 and Hi-3 settings). If the user has a stereo microphone, the camera’s D-movie function allows capturing HD video with stereo sound. The camera is equipped with HDMI out for the connection to HD video systems.

The feature, differentiating Nikon D3S from other similar cameras, except for the video capturing mode, are the extended capabilities for filming with bad lighting. Moreover, the camera is good for shooting fast-moving objects due to the 51-point auto focus system (modes from 9.21 to 51 point auto focus).

The new camera features the image sensor cleaning function and allows three crop modes (5:4, 1.2x and DX ). The maximum speed of shooting makes up to 9 fps (up to 11fps in DX mode), the special function allows the camera to save selected frames.

Nikon D3S is equipped with a wide-angle 3”LCD display with the resolution of 920.000 pixels.

The camera is supplied with a built-in image processing system, the 14-bit A/D conversion and a 16-bit image-processing pipeline allow to apply various color effect to the images. This model is able to process RAW images, and the retouch menus allow compress images into JPEG format, customize the size of the image, white color balance, exposure and the amount of noise and work in Picture Control mode.
