Are you missing old times? I have one pleasure thing for you… vintage greeting card. So, this Photoshop tutorial about how to create it.

Let’s start! Create a new file 700×700, then fill it with color of #502b2b.

After that I would bring some vintage texture to canvas. You can find different textures using Google search or feel free to use this one. Ok, open the file and go to Edit > Define Pattern to save it as pattern, then close the file and go back to main document. Apply the following layer styles to the background layer:
• Pattern Overlay

Create a new layer and fill it with black color. Get out the Elliptical Marquee Tool and make a round selection as below:

Use Select > Modify > Feather (size about 70 px) to make selection borders softer and press Delete to clear selection, then press Ctrl+D to deactivate selection.

Now is the main step. Prepare to create a vintage greeting card. First of all find some old style paper and photo. Go to Google search again and find some proper pictures or feel free to use this old style paper and vintage photo. So, at first bring the old style paper to the canvas and crop it till sizes shown below:

Ok, after that bring photo to the canvas and crop it to the similar sizes:

Then click on Image > Adjustment > Desaturate to make your photo black-and-white and change layer mode to Luminosity:

We’ve been missing something important up until now, haven’t we… time to add some text!
Get out your Horizontal Type Tool and write something like below:

In the above image I’ve used Adobe Caslon Pro as my font of choice, and I’ve used color of #221301.
Actually, it is commercial, but if you don’t have it, you can easily find a good alternative. Ok, and the last one thing that we need to add is design elements, you can find it using Google search also or try this one.

Now merge this layer with the text, then get out the Eraser Tool, and select one from the standard Photoshop brushes with settings similar to these:

Make a little scratches and abrasions as below. Make the same things with photo:

Merge all layer of photo on one. Now I would like to make rough edges photos. For this effect create a new layer and fill it with white color. Then select the photography confines (Press Ctrl+ Right click the Layer Thumbnail in the Layers Palette) and fill the selection on the upper layer with black color. Press Ctrl+D to remove the selection. Then apply Filter > Brush Strokes > Spatter with the next presets:

Your picture should look as mine:

Ok, now use Magic Wand Tool to select white color and press delete to remove it. Apply Select > Load Selection to load the selection (after that you can delete the layer with black rectangle, we don’t need it more) then apply Select > Modify > Contract to contract the selection about 2 pixels and press Ctrl +Shift+I to invert the selection. Press Delete to clear image in selectied area and deselect it with Select > Deselect.

Use Blur Tool (Soft round brush about 25 px, Strength: 40%) to make card edges softer:

And the next step what we need to do is add some noise to give photos of noise to enhance the vintage effect. Apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise with the following presets:

Nice effect! Isn’t it? Ok, now we need to rotate it and transform a little bit. Press Ctrl+T and rotate the picture as shown on my picture:

After that apply Edit > Transform > Warp to curl cards angle as below:

Not bad now! The last thing we really need to do is add a little glare on the card. Create a new layer again and make selection using the Polygonal Lasso Tool as on picture below. Then apply Select > Modify > Feather to feather selection about 7 pixels, after that activate the Gradient Tool and a white to transparent gradient, fill in the work area as on picture below.

Then select previous layer with Select > Load Selection and go back to layer with gradient, press Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection and press Delete. Remove the selection with Ctrl+D and set opacity for this layer up to 70%. Alright, now, hopefully your canvas should look like this:

First of all, create a new document around 1000×500 pixels in size ad fill it with color of #524f2e.

Set up Foreground and Background colors as white and black accordingly and then apply Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow with presets similar to these:

Ok, now we have something like this:

Press D to set Foreground and Background colors as standard. Then duplicate layer with Ctrl+J and apply another one Filter > Brush Strokes > Ink Outlines:

Now we have a relief like this:

Change layer mode to Darken and set opacity to 30% up.

Ok, now I would like to bring some gradient to canvas. Create a new layer, after that activate the Gradient Tool and a black to transparent gradient, fill in the work area as on picture below.

Next thing to do is add some text to our canvas. Get the Horizontal Type Tool out and write some text onto it.

In the above image I’ve used Arial Black (130 pt, Sharp) for my font with a very thick weight/setting. Then use the following warp text properties for this layer:

Move the text in the middle of canvas:

Now find some appropriate fabric texture. For this you might want to go to Google and search for a good-quality picture or use this one. Open this file, then apply Edit > Define Pattern to save it as pattern and close the document. Go back to main document and apply Pattern Overlay layer style to the text layer:

Use Layer > Rasterize > Type to rasterize text layer, after that get out the Eraser Tool with the next presets:

Process the text edges to get the fabric effect as on picture as below:

After that apply Drop Shadow and Outer Glow layer styles more:

See the result:

Ok, now it’s time to add running stitches. Select the Brush Tool (soft round brush, size of 3 px) and draw the stitches as below:

And one more things, it will look better when we will add some embroidery to canvas:

Now apply Drop Shadow, Outer Glow and Color Overlay to make stitches view more realistic:

After those actions your picture should look as mine:

Obviously, the first thing we should do is create a new document. For this tutorial I’m using not very big size of 1000×700 pixels. Then fill the canvas with a black color. After that we will create background step by step.

Now create a new one layer, after that get out Rectangular Marquee Tool and make selection as on picture below and fill it with color of #302f13:

Deselect image with Select > Deselect and apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise with a low settings:

Your image should look as mine:

After that apply Inner Shadow layer style to this layer:

Now duplicate this layer with Ctrl+J and move it down, after that actions change the angle of Inner Shadow from -90 to +90 degrees:

Ok, let’s make farther steps in creating our website background. Select Rectangular Marquee Tool again and make the selection of about half the remaining black field, then create a new layer and fill it with colors of #2a400f and #1a2f06.

Now I would like to apply some pattern to the gradient line. For this create a new one document sized 3×3 pixels and draw a skew line by using Pencil Tool as on picture below:

Then go to Edit > Define Pattern and save it as pattern. After that go back to our main document and apply the Pattern Overlay layer style to get the next picture:

Looking good! Isn’t it? Now select again Rectangular Marquee Tool and select remainder of the black field then create a new layer and fill it with gradient, using colors of #374a20 and #1a2d08.

I think we should add a couple of lines to the background. Now get out Single Row Marquee Tool, create a new layer and fill the selection with a black color. Then move the selection one pixel lower and fill it with a white color. Press Ctrl+D to deselect chosen area and change layer opacity to 20%.

Add one more line at the bottom of the brown field of background.

Ok, we are almost done!

Now we need to add the window to finish off the website background. Start by making a new layer. Now find and get out the Rounded Rectangle Tool, set up the radius about 10 pixels and draw a rounded rectangle onto your canvas, this will be the main window.

If you need you can apply Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Gradient Overlay and Stroke layer styles to this layer:

To finish of the background we should add vertical dark lines from the left and right sides of the canvas (we need to add black lines to make website coding more easer). Now create a new layer, after that activate the Gradient Tool and a black to transparent gradient, fill in the work area as on picture below:

In this little Photoshop tutorial we’ll be designing funny disco style background, for your wallpapers, greeting cards, etc.

Let’s start with a new document. For this Photoshop tutorial I’m using a size of 1000×1000 pixels, 72 dpi and black color.

First of all press D to set up foreground and background colors black and white, then create a new layer and apply Filter > Render > Clouds:

Now use Image > Adjustments > Brightness > Contrast to make clouds more contrast:

Now, we have picture like this one:

After that apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise with similar settings to these:

Your picture should look as mine:

Then select Single Row Marquee Tool and make selection as below:

Press Ctrl+T to transform the selection and move it up and down. Now your have a picture like this:

Deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and apply the following layer style:
• Gradient Overlay

See the difference now:

Then continue with selection the Eraser Tool and soft round brush and clear some upper and lower parts of image as shown on a picture below:

Then chose another one brush with presets similar to these (it is also standard Photoshop brush):

And make holes in this layer:

Ok, now apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with the next presets:

To get the next picture:

Looks not good yet! Ok, next we’ll add cool white lines to the background. Now before we can start making our lines, I would like to note you that you need to get out the Brush Tool before and set up with the following settings:

Also set foreground color as white. Get out the Pen Tool (you need to make sure that you’re working with Paths instead of Shape Layers) and drag the first line onto your canvas like I’ve done in the below screenshot:

Create a new layer, then right-click and select Stroke Path.

A little dialog box will appear as in the screenshot. Choose the Brush from stroke path resources and press OK. The picture use to look as mine:

Next right click again and select Delete Path. Add two more lines, making the same things two more times:

Now select the Polygonal Lasso Tool to make selection of small part of line as below:

Then select the Blur Tool (Strength: 50%) and blur the selected part of line. Press Ctrl+D to deselect it. You can see the result below:

Also you can blur more parts of different lines:

Now get out the Brush Tool and a soft round brush (size of 9 px) to make little white dots on the blurred and normal lines boundary.

Ok, let’s move onto the next step. Create a new one layer, then select the Ellipse Tool and make different white rounds as on picture below (Note: every time pres Shift to make all the rounds on the same layer):

Set opacity up to 20% for this layer. Then create a new layer and create new white rounds on it and set opacity up to 20% for this layer too.

Make the last one layer for white rounds. Do the same things again.

Ok, merge all layers with white rounds and lines in one and apply the following layer style:
• Gradient Overlay

Now your canvas should look as mine:

After that things set opacity to 50% up and press Ctrl+J to duplicate layer, then apply Filter > Blur > Box Blur with similar settings to these:

See the difference:

Ok, to finish off the background I think we should add some white dots on it to make it funnier and more contrast. Get out the Brush Tool and a soft round brush (size of 9 pixels) and put some dots on the new layer as below. Set opacity up to 50% for this layer.

Well, I think I’ve pretty much explained all I can for this tutorial!

In this Photoshop tutorial I will be walking you through the making of an interesting grunge photo effect.

To start out find some appropriate image. For this I went to Google Images and found this one image. Fill free to use it or try another one what you want.
So, open the file and press Ctrl+J to duplicate the layer. Then apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these:

Now mess with the layer mode & opacity/fill. I tried Soft Light with opacity of 60%.

Ok, merge these layers in one again and change the hue and saturation of image using Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation with the next presets:

Now your picture should look as mine:

After that go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and set up similar presets to these:

To get a picture below:

Press Ctrl+J again and change mode of new layer to Lighter Color. Now apply Filter > Distort > Ripple using the next settings:

Then apply Filter > Stylize > Diffuse:

And the last one Filter > Brush strokes > Splatter:

Now we have something like this:

After that get out the Eraser Tool with similar settings to the picture below and delete parts of upper layer that cover up the image.

You should get something close to this:

Merge all layers in one again and duplicate the final layer. Then desaturate image with Image > Adjustments > Desaturate:

Ok, now select the Eraser Tool and a soft round brush (opacity about 25%, size of 100 px) and make clear some parts of image.

After that to give the picture a cold shade create a new layer and fill it with color of #011e36. Then make selection as below using Elliptical Marquee Tool.

Apply Select > Modify > Feather (Radius about 47 px) to feather selected area. Press Delete to clear selected area.

Deselect it wit Ctrl+D and change layer mode to Overlay, then set opacity to 50% up:

If done correctly your image should look great as mine!

One more interesting tutorial about how to create gauzy text effect in Photoshop.

Now, firstly, you’ll have to create a new document in which you can make this text. For this tutorial I’m going to be using a size of 1000×500 pixels with the default resolution (DPI) of 72 and white background.

After creating your document, add in a suitable background using Gradient Overlay layer style:

Now we have something like this:

After that I would like to bring some picture to background to make the text effect more evident. Actually, you can use different pictures, but I prefer to use this one picture of robot Marvin. Bring it to the canvas and then reduce it a little bit as shown on a picture below:

I ended up with this for my background. If you want to download the picture of robot used above, please feel free: Robot.png
Use the Outer Glow layer style to make the picture more contrast.

Alright, time to write out your text. I’ll just be using the font called Helios Black (270 pt, Crisp) for this tutorial, which is commercial. If you don’t have it, just try different font. Write out something like ‘gauzy’ in the middle of canvas using Horizontal Type Tool.

Now set fill opacity to 0% up, after that apply Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Inner Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Contour, Satin, and Stroke layer styles to this text layer:

Also I would like to add some pattern to our gauzy text style. For this effect create a new document with size of 5×5 pixels and draw cross lines by using Pencil Tool as on picture below:

Then go to Edit > Define Pattern and save it as pattern. After that go back to our main document and apply the Pattern Overlay layer style to get the next picture:

This tutorial about how to create your own brushes and set up individual settings for it.

First of all, find some appropriate image to create the brush from it. I prefer to use this one. Actually, you can use different pictures for brushes if you want.
So, open the image and go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate to make it black-and-white.

Then create a new brush with Edit > Define Brush Preset, enter the brush name, for example, Flower_1 and press Ok to save it, then it will show up in your brushes. Create a new document sized 1000×500 pixels with all the default settings, RGB, 72 dpi, white background etc (in the future for this tutorial we will create a couple of new documents with the same presets to demonstrate brush presets). Select the Brush Tool and find our created brush in brush palette:

So, your prints should look as mine:

It is simply method to create brush. Also we can make brush edges softer. For this go back to
Example.jpg and clear background with Eraser Tool. Now we have something like this:

Then go to Edit > Define Brush Preset again and save this brush as Flower_2. Create a new one document and make new brush prints:

Ok, now I would like to review more brush presets. Click the button ‘Toggle the Brushes palette’ on the Options Bar to open brush presets window or by choosing Window > Brushes. Here we can see a couple of presets. I would like to briefly review main of them.

Click the name of the action, such as Scattering, to reach the sliders to adjust it. After you’ve made the adjustments, use the check box to turn the effect on or off.

The result will be the next:

Don’t forget to add new brush to brush palette. Press the button selected on picture below then chose New Brush Preset.

Chose Texture action. Here you can set different parameters affecting the application of texture to brush prints. It is possible to use Photoshop textures or download your own.

Select a new one interesting action Dual Brush. In this action is possible to mix two different brushes.
Over the basis of a brush, installed in the main window palette and the second is configured in the window presets.

Select Color Dynamic action. If you use a graphics tablet and stylus, you can get the same sort of fade-out effect that you’d get in the real world by easing off the pressure on a brush or pencil. You have five options for each of these settings: Off, Fade, Pen Pressure, Pen Tilt, and Stylus Wheel. In this pane you can range color dynamic for the brush.

Also we can add some noise to the brush. You can see the difference on picture below:

Wet Edges creates a sort of watercolor effect when you paint.

First of all, make a new document in Photoshop. I created a new document sized 1000×500 pixels with all the default settings, RGB, 72 dpi, white background etc.

Apply the Gradient Overlay layer style to this layer:

Now we have something like this:

This is the easy part; all you have to do is write out your desired text on the canvas. Get out the Horizontal Type Tool and write out your text, for example ‘Delicate’ in whatever color you want.

In the above image I’ve used a font called Cooper (170 pt, Crisp), which is sadly a commercial font. Feel free to try a different font, or you know, buy or ‘get’ a nice font from somewhere.
Ok, now let’s start with creating delicate text effect. First of all we need to add some pattern to Photoshop patterns palette to use it for creating text effect later. Open this texture or find another one using Google Images and use Edit > Define Pattern to save this picture as pattern.
Go back to our created file and apply the following layer styles to the text layer:
• Drop Shadow
• Inner Shadow
• Outer Glow
• Inner Glow
• Bevel and Emboss
• Contour
• Texture
• Satin
• Pattern Overlay
• Stroke

Now your image should now look like the image shown below:

Create a new layer and merge it with text layer to get all styles in one image. Then Press Ctrl+J to duplicate this layer, then go to previous layer and apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with similar settings to these:

Now we have interesting effect.

After that go to the upper layer and apply the following layer style:
• Outer Glow

If you like you can add some graphic elements to background, for example, stars. Get out the Brush Tool and select the standard brush with the next presets:

Go to background layer, create a new layer above and make the stars using color of #ffbebe.

I’ll be showing you how to make some stylish image of nature including striking grass.

Ok, let’s start! Firstly we’re going to make a nice background. Start by creating a new document in Photoshop sized 1000×400 px, all the default settings. After making your new document, fill the background layer with colors of #595c69 and #0f1523.

Now, I would like to add some elements of nature where our grass will grow. For this I went to Google Images and searched for a picture of nature. I prefer to use this image. Open the picture, select Polygonal Lasso Tool and make selection as on picture below:

Press Ctrl+C to copy selected area of image, then go back to created document for design and paste the part of image. Your image should look as mine:

Now, let’s start the text! First get the Horizontal Type Tool, and write out your text on the original picture. I’ve used a font called Arial Black (160 pt, Crisp). After that use Select > Load Selection to select the text:

Go to previous layer with original image and copy selected area with Ctrl+C. Now go to Photoshop image again and paste the copied fragment.

Ok, now select the Eraser Tool with similar settings to the picture below to handle edges of every letter:

Your image should now look like the image shown below:

Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool select and cut every letter to the separate layer but only type one letter per layer and rotate and move it by using Edit > Free Transform.

Apply the Bevel and Emboss layer style to this layer:

I would like to add some shadows in the bottom of every letter, where the grass will grow. For this effect get out the Dodge Tool (Shadows, Exposure: 20%) and make little dodge work:

Time to add the grass! Create a new layer, then select Brush Tool and select the brush as shown below. This is standard Photoshop brush.

Then set up foreground and background colors similar to #678a25 and #faf04f and draw the first line of the grass.

Then create a new one layer and draw the second line of the grass. After that apply Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal to flip this layer horizontal:

Create a new one layer and draw the third layer of the grass. We are done with foreground.

Now we need to bring some grass to our letters and background. Select Brush Tool again and set up the smaller size of brush to make the grass a little bit smaller on the new layer.

Make the same things with other letters:

Ok, now create a new one layer more, set up the standard size of the brush again and add some grass on the background:

Looks pretty nice, doesn’t it? But it is not finished yet. Get out the Burn Tool (Shadow, Exposure: 20%) to make the grass more three-dimensional and contrast partly. Apply this tool to every layer of the grass. Now you should have a background like this:

To finish of the grass we need to add I little bit of soil on the bottom of grass area. Select the Brush Tool with similar settings to these:

Make a little light strokes using color of #623a1f to get the next picture:

We are done with making the grass. Also we can bring some graphic elements to our design from the original picture of nature. You can see what we gave designed with this tutorial in the below image.

In this simple and easy tutorial I’m showing you how to make a showy advertising badge, just like the one shown below!

First of all, as usual, create a new document in Photoshop; in my case 500×300 pixels, 72 dpi white color.

Make a new selection with Rectangular Marquee Tool, then create a new layer and fill the selected area with color of #a1ca04:

Deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and apply the following layer styles:
• Drop Shadow
• Gradient Overlay
• Stroke

Alright, now we have a picture like this:

Let’s create the base of our badge now. Firstly, get out the Elliptical Marquee Tool, then make a selection as on picture below. Create a new layer and fill your selection with color of #0094ba. Press Ctrl+D to deselect new round shape.

Alright, now we need to cut away a small corner. To do this, first get out the Polygonal Lasso Tool, then select a corner of your shape like so:

Right-click your selection and go to layer via cut; this will cut the selected pixels and place them in a new layer. Hide the copy (click on the eye, which indicates layer visibility). Go to lower layer and apply such layer styles as:
• Outer Glow
• Inner Glow
• Gradient Overlay
• Stroke

Now, time to add grid pattern to our badge. For this create a new document with size of 3×3 pixels and draw a skew line by using Pencil Tool as on picture below.

Then go to Edit > Define Pattern and save it as pattern. After that go back to our main document and apply the Pattern Overlay layer style to get the next picture:

Ok, what about soft glare? For this effect create a new layer, then get out the Polygonal Lasso Tool and create the selected as shown below. Fill it with white color.

Deselect chosen area with Select > Deselect and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with the next presets:

Then apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with similar setting to these:

Now we have something like this:

Then go back to the hidden corner of the shape and make it visible again. Rotate your peel effect layer with Edit > Transform > Rotate 180, then you may need to move it slightly so it’s exactly on the corner.

After that apply the following layer styles to this layer:
• Drop Shadow
• Inner Shadow
• Color Overlay

Your image should look like this:

And the last one thing that we need to add is white glare on corner surface. So, to make this effect select the Polygonal Lasso Tool and make selection like on picture below. After that activate the Gradient Tool and a white to transparent gradient, fill in the work area on the new layer as on picture below.

Apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these:

Now we have a little bit blurred glare effect:

Ok, we need to cut away a little part of glare what is outside the corner area. Go to previous layer Right click the Layer Thumbnail in the Layers Palette. Then go back to upper layer and press Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection, then press Delete to clear selected area. Remove the selection with Select > Deselect and set opacity to 70% up for this layer.

Now let’s add some text. Get out the Horizontal Type Tool (just the regular one) and write out something like below on two lines. Also you can add some graphic elements more.

Alright, looking nice, isn’t it?
